Kyle's album consists of a variety of topics, covering love (The Blanket Song), attraction (Perfume), escape (Costa Rica), loss (Empty House), and even death (When We're Gone). The experience takes the listener on a journey through a wide variety of emotions.
The songs were composed on the piano and stripped down - one would compare her to Norah Jones, Fiona Apple, or Jewel. Since bringing her music to the studio, her sound has evolved into a mix of rock and pop and into a field far more difficult to classify. However, the original depth she found on the keys is still at the core of her sound. She writes of deep pain and heartbreak that betrays a girl in her teens.
Ask Kyle how she writes her songs - she will tell you they come to her in a million different forms. Through literature, art, interacting with others. There is one consistent in her technique, she writes the melody first on the piano, and in the music she claims to "hear" the words, as if the music is a portal between her subconscious and conscious mind. The piano is her connection between mind and soul.
